Integrity.
Honesty, trustworthiness and dependability are key elements of personal integrity. Those are qualities we would look for in our friends, and we should demand in our public officials. As your financial advocate though, the County Auditor must be held to an even higher standard. A crucial component of duties of the County Auditor is also to create and preserve fiscal integrity.
Independence.
According to the Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards, "in all matters relating to the audit work, the audit organization and the individual auditor, whether government or public, must be free from personal, external, and organizational impairments to independence, and must avoid the appearance of such impairments of independence."
Innovation.
My plan to improve the functionality of the Kane County Auditor is based upon the implementation of best practice policies, specifically designed to increase transparency through departmental collaboration to achieve a higher level of public accountability.
Recently I had a friend ask me what in the world I was trying to say with that opening line. My answer was that I was trying to poke a little fun at politicians using buzzwords and catch phrases in general...and especially when they are irrelevant or inaccurate.
So let me re-state my opening more simply. As your next Kane County Auditor, I plan to implement a series of steps - a combination of new programs and modifications to existing protocols - to better serve the citizens, and in order to be effective I will require cooperation from every department countywide.
